Mastectomy Bathing Suits
18 And i just got a mastectomy of my right breast, help anyone?
I just got a masectomy on my right breast, i just came home from the hospital yesterday and today saw what was behind the band aids. Can any woman whos been through this give me tips on how to stay positive in my situation? Its devestaing to me now because i have no clue what to do. Some of my questions are
Bras?
Prostsis?
What about summer time? with prostisis and bathing suits ( remeber im 18 
)
Im planning on having implants put in after i recover but that is half a year away. Im really not sure on how to deal with it.
Please let me know what you would do in my situation.
I personally have not gone through exactly what you have gone through but I grew up with one breast being about a cup size smaller than the other. I was basically flat on one side and normal on the other, so I feel like I can identify with you!
I have since gotten my breasts corrected with an augmentation like you’re planning on, too.
I don’t know how big your left breast is, so this might affect some of the suggestions I’m going to give you. But here are some of the things I did.
I would say first, definitely go to a specialty lingerie store. You could even try a higher end department store. They can fit you and find you a few great bras that have removable padding. They will also be able to recommend these inserts called “chicken cutlets” which will basically fill the right cup of the bra for you.
I usually only bought bras that had little pockets for padding and I would shove more padding in there to make everything look even. Bra shopping was a nightmare but once I found one that worked I’d buy a few and all the colors.
I have looked into prosthesis and found them to be very expensive. If you can find a gel insert and it will be big enough, I’d definitely go with that.
As for bathing suits (I used to HATE the summer just for that reason) I bought bikinis that had tops that looked like bras and had great support. This way, I could do exactly what I did in my bra to even myself out. H&M had some great ones and you can also try Victoria’s Secret when they come out with bathing suits for the summer.
I really hope this helps and I think you’re so brave! It won’t be forever and you’ll get your augmentation soon. Christina Applegate recently got a double mastectomy and she jokingly said that now she’ll have perfect boobs when she’s 90!
